DistributionPapua New Guinea, Australia (Northern Territory, Queensland, Western Australia)

Type locality: Australia. Restricted to Port Nelson, NW coast of Australia by Gray, 1826/1827. Also given as Careening Bay, WA.  
Reproductionoviparous. Exhibits temperature‐dependent sex determination (TSD) fide Cornejo-Páramo et al. 2020 (and references therein). 
TypesHolotype: lost, formerly RCSHC = RCL, fide COGGER 1983, Melville et al. 2018: 42 
DiagnosisDiagnosis: easily recognizable by the large, loose “frill” of skin around neck, which is unique to this genus and species. 
CommentType species: Chlamydosaurus kingii GRAY 1825 is the type species of the genus Chlamydosaurus GRAY 1825.

Synonymy: KAISER et al. 2013 rejected all names coined by HOSER in or after 2000.

Population structure: Pepper et al. 2016 showed 3 clearly genetically separated allopatric populations along the northern coast of Australia in this species. However, they did not name them as separate taxa. 
Etymologynamed after Captain and Admiral Philip Parker King (1791-1856), Australian-born British marine surveyor and collector.
