DiagnosisDiagnosis: Cnemaspis punctata differs from its peninsular Indian and Sri Lankan congeners by a combination of the following characters. Maximum SVL 36.0 mm; paired postmentals separated by a medial scale; each postmental bounded by 4 scales including medial scale; ventrals, 131–135; ventral scales across midbody, 20–29; dorsal scales homogeneous; dorsal tubercles isolated, scattered; spine-like tubercles present on flanks; ventrals smooth; preanal pores absent; 5–7 femoral pores on each side; subcaudals smooth, scales on median row enlarged, subequal; supralabials to angle of jaws, 7–10; subdigital lamellae on digit IV of pes, 17–23; (in life) dorsum dark, with minute olive-coloured spots forming an irregular pattern; two longitudinal series of distinct dusky-white spots on dorsum; tail with about nine dusky-white blotches [from  
CommentAbundance: only known from its original description (Meiri et al. 2017). This is one of the species called 'lost' and 'rediscovered' by Lindken et al. 2024. 
EtymologyNamed after a Latin adjective (gender feminine) meaning "dotted", a reference to the distinctive dorsal colour pattern of this gecko.
