| Etymology | Named after Afonso d'Escragnolle Taunay (1876-1958), the son of a Brazilian viscount when Brazil was still a monarchy.
The genus was named after Greek kolobos (κολοβός), docked, clipped, curtailed, shortened, incomplete, truncated + Greek dactylos = finger. |
