EtymologyNamed after the oreades, mountain nymphs in Greek mythology who inhabit mountains and hills, often associated with wilderness and forests. The term oreades also denotes the phytogeographic region of central Brazil, as defined by K. F. P. Von Martius in 1824, which corresponds mainly to what is now known as the Cerrado biome.
