TypesHolotype: unlocated (not in MNHN), a 520 mm specimen (Rodrigues) (fide V. Wallach, pers. comm.) 
DiagnosisDiagnosis: “GL ausnahmsweise über 80 cm, in der Regel aber unter 70 cm. Eine her kleine Schlange mit wenig vom Hals abgesetztem Kopf und glatter Beschuppung. Von C. austriaca durch die würfelartig gezeichnete Bauchseite, durch Kopf- und Körperzeichnung sowie Beschuppung und Hemipenisstruktur unterscheidbar. Fast immer 8 Supralabialia, davon viertes und fünftes das Auge berührend. 21 Dorsalia um die Körpermitte, Reduktion von 21 auf 19 Rückenschuppenreihen meist hinter der Körpermitte, nur selten davor. Eine weitere, nicht immer vorhandene Reduktion von 19 auf 17 im hinteren Viertel, vor dem Anale.” (Dušej 1993: 247)

CommentSynonymy: Despite contrary reports probably not present on Sicily (E. Razetti, pers. comm.). Coronella girondica amaliae Boettger 1881 is not recognised by most authors (Saint Girons 1956, Schleich et al. 1996, Sindaco et al. 2013).
