Type locality: Port Blair, Andaman Islands  
Reproductionoviparous 
TypesType: Lost, according to Smith (1935), reportedly "common at Port Blair" (11º 36'N; 92º 45'E, in South Andaman Islands, Bay of Bengal, India), where the holotype may have originated. ZSI 50412 is listed as the holotype of Tiaris humei Stoliczka, 1873, from Tellingchang Island (= Tillanchong Island, 08º 30'N; 93º 37'E, Nicobar Islands, Bay of Bengal, India). Das et al. 1998 listed ZSI 5191–92 (syntypes) ZSI 5369–70 (syntypes) ZSI 5199–202 (syntypes).

CommentSynonymy: C. maximiliani used to be considered a synonym of C. subcristatus but was revalidated by Mirza et al. 2025. The two nomina, ‘maximiliani’ and ‘humei’ were synonymised with C. subcristatus by Annandale (1904).
