Crotalus intermedius FISCHER 1882 is a primary homonym of Crotalus intermedius TROSCHEL in MÜLLER 1865 (Holotypus: UMB 435 missing and may be lost).

Nomenclature: Hoser’s 2009 classification and nomenclature has been rejected as unnecessary and unavailable by WÜSTER & BERNILS 2011. 
EtymologyNamed after Latin intermedius, that is between, intermediate. [“...Beschildung zu Crotalus s. str., wenngleich sie manche anderen Merkmale, namentlich die Theilung der letzten Subcaudalschilder mit Crotalophorus Gray gemein hat...”].

C. i. gloydi was named after Howard Kay Gloyd (1902-1978), US American herpetologist.

C. i. omiltemanus was named after Omilteme, a locality in Guerrero State, México + Latin -anus, pertaining to. ["...Hab. Mexico, Omilteme in Guerrero…"].
