Type locality: "10 miles northwest of Gomez Farias on the trail to La loya de Salas, Tamaulipas, Mexico, at an altitude of about 5300 ft., in a forested flat."

Distribution: see maps in Campbell & Lamar 2004: 527 (Map 90) and Blair et al. 2018: 352 (Fig. 1). Not in Nuevo Léon fide Lemos-Espinal (pers. comm. 6 June 2016). Not in Coahuila fide Lazcano et al. 2019, but shown on map for Coahuila and Nuevo Leon by 
EtymologyNamed after Latin morus, mulberry + Latin -ulus; of a, pertaining to a, in a condition of, in a state of. [“...The juveniles are very dark, both above and below, with black dorsal blotches on gray backgrounds that are heavily mottled by the intermediates. The adults are slate-gray to dark slate-gray with dark-brown blotches...”].
