CommentVenomous!

Subspecies: Crotalus triseriatus armstrongi CAMPBELL 1978 has been elevated to full species status by BRYSON et al. 2014.

Distribution: Not listed for San Luis Potosí by Lemos-Espinal & Dixon 2013, nor Lemos-Espinal et al. 2018 (checklist SLP). Not in Querétaro fide Tepos-Ramírez M et al. (2023). See map in Blair et al. 2018: 352 (Fig. 1).

Type locality: "Mexico." Proposed restriction to "Alvarez, San Luis Potosi, Mexico" by Smith and Taylor (1950:342). This restriction is not valid because C. t. triseriatus, as presently defined, does not range into the state of San Luis Potosi; Alvarez is the type-locality for C. t. aquilus [= Crotalus aquilus].

Nomenclature: Hoser’s 2009 classification and nomenclature has been rejected as unnecessary and unavailable by WÜSTER & BERNILS 2011.
EtymologyNamed after Latin triseriatus, having three rows, or series. [“...Notaeo olivaceo serie macularum in spina dorsi irregularium rhombearum, rufescenti-fuscarum, margine antico nigro-limbatarum, serie macularam minorum, ejusdem formae ac coloris in utroque latere...”].
