DistributionCentral Bahama Islands, including San Salvador, the Exuma Cays, islands of the Crooked-Acklins group.

rileyi: San Salvador I. and satellites. Type locality: San Salvador Island, Bahama Islands.

cristata: southern Exuma Cays. Type locality: "White Cay [Exuma Islands], Bahama Islands".

nuchalis: cays in Bight of Acklins.

DiagnosisDESCRIPTION: Size small (SVL in males to 306 mm, in females to 254 mm); 4-7 (mode 4) scale rows between frontal and interparietal; no azygous scales in pre-frontal suture; 5-11 (mode 7) scales between anterior canthals; 3-9 (mode 7) scales bordering frontal; first prefrontal never in contact with precanthal; 3 - 4 (mode 3) vertical loreal rows; 10-15 (mode 13) suboculars to anterior border of tympanum; 5-7 (mode 6) sublabials to eye center; 2-3 (mode 2) rows of scales between infralabials and sublabials; 1-3 (mode 2) postmentals; 35-50 femoral pores in a single row; dorsal crest scales 13-25 between occiput and shoulder, 60-81 between shoulder and sacrum, 18-27 between sacrum and first caudal verticil, total dorsal crest scales between occiput and first caudal verticil 104-123, but postsacral scales not enlarged in 2 populations and thus not included in above counts; dorsal crest scales always higher on neck than body crest scales, body crest scales almost never higher than postsacral crest scales; 40-48 scales around tail in fifth caudal verticil; 18-28 dorsolateral body scales in naris-eye distance; rostral scale always in contact with nasals. Dorsum variable (by subspecies): (1) orange with pale blue-green markings and fine black vermiculations, (2) bluish gray marbled with orange-brown or blackish, or (3) gray with brown to orange-brown vermiculations; juveniles pale brown with pale middorsal zone often including about 7 vague, darker areas, 1 population showing a tendency toward overall pale- and-dark longitudinal dorsal streaking (Schwartz & Henderson 1991: 401).
