Comment | Synonymy: partly after I. Doronin (pers. comm. 6 June 2016). MACCULLOCH et al. (2000) synonymized D. s. darevskii und D. s. szczerbaki with Darevskia s. brauneri, which they elevated to full species status. However, some recent authors consider D. szczerbaki as valid species, e.g. TUNIYEV & TUNIYEV 2012. Habitat and ecology: seaside (the Black Sea) up to Alpine meadows in different biotopes. For example, in ravine’s sole with beech-hornbeam forest, in the oak forest on the slope or along the rivers’ banks [V. Gasso, pers. comm. 14 June 2011]. Successfully populates man-made landscapes: stone fences, foundations, city parks. Probably the most widespread species of reptiles of the Western Caucasus: up to 500 lizards per 1 km of route. Distribution: see maps in Tuniyev & Tuniyev 2012 and Doronin 2012: 106 (who also has separate maps for D. b. darevskii, myusserica, and szczerbaki). NCBI taxonomy ID: 1592834 (darevskii) |
Etymology | Named after the Russian zoologist Alexander Brauner (1857-1941), who collected part of a type series. |
