Type locality: Boundoukondi (12°31’N, 12°20’W), Sénégal oriental.  
Reproductionoviparous (not imputed, fide Zimin et al. 2022) 
TypesHolotype: IRSNB 2615 (anciennement IRD S-2088), récolté entre mars 1992 et février 1993 par un paysan de ce village qui l’a remis aux auteurs.

Habitat: partly arboreal (Harrington et al. 2018). 
EtymologyNamed after the reddish color that it presents and which is also that of the lateritic soils of the regions of West Africa where it is found.
