Type locality: Mahamouda Chérif (12°58’N, 16°30’W), Basse Casamance, Sénégal.

Habitat: partly arboreal (Harrington et al. 2018). 
EtymologyNamed after Carl Gans (1923-2009), German-born American herpetologist. See Adler et al. 2010 for obituaries.
