Diagnosis | Diagnosis: A species of Dendrelaphis, characterized by the combination of: (1) vertebral scales strongly enlarged, larger than the dorsals of the first row; (2) 161-173 ventrals; (3) 126-153 divided subcaudals; (4) 15 dorsal scale rows at midbody; (5) anal shield divided; (6) a long first sublabial that touches 4 infralabials on average (range: 2-5); (7) a single loreal; (8) a single anterior temporal, 3 to 5 temporals in total; (9) 1 to 2 postoculars; (10) a parietal shield that extends far down the side of the head, as a result of which the temporal region is very angular; (11) small eye, 3.4-4.1 mm when adjusted to a SVL of 57.5 cm.; (12) maximum total length 94.5 cm; (13) very long tail, TAIL/TL 0.34-0.38; (14) a narrow postocular stripe that covers the lower part of the lower temporals and ends at the rear of the jaw or extends onto the neck; (15) the presence of oblique black bars on the sides of the neck; (16) the presence of a light ventrolateral stripe that is dull and in most cases barely visible; (17) absence of black lines bordering the ventrolateral stripe. |

Etymology | This species is named after Mr C.P.J. De Haas who collected the type-specimens of D. haasi. |
