CommentSynonymy that of PETERS & DONOSO-BARROS 1970. Werner 1901 already speculatules in his description that Cnemidophorus centropyx is very similar to heterolepis and possibly the same species. 
EtymologyNamed after Greek heteros (ἕτερος), of another kind, different + Greek lepis (λεπίς), scale. [“...pholidosi uropygii majori...”]. (from Esteban Lavilla, pers. comm., May 2024)
