Type locality: Wangjiao (29°17.6′N, 99°5.2′E), Batang Country, Sichuan, elevation 2,400 m.

TypesHolotype: CWNU Ba-98012 (China West Normal University, Nanchong; was: STC, for Sichuan Teacher’s College, Nanchong), adult male; collected by Wu Yi on August 9,1998. Allotype: Ba-98004, adult female; Quxigong Village(29°46.1′N,99°3.8′E) Batang Country,Sichuan, alt.4 100 m collected by Wan Yu on July 29,1998. Paratypes: 3 males (Ba98010, Ba98014, Ba98017), and 3 females (Ba98015, Ba98016, Ba98018): collected from the same locality from 5-9 August, 1998. Type specimens are kept in the Institute of Rare Animals and Plants, Sichuan Teachers College. The holotype could not be found when checked in Dec 2018 (Cai Bo, pers. comm., 20 Dec 2018). 
DiagnosisDiagnosis:This new species resembles Japalura flaviceps Barbour and Dunn but differs from the latter in 1. A well developed lateral nuchal fold stretching between the shoulder and gular folds,and bordering a small cavity underneath the fold; 2. Seven to nine grayish white broken or complete transverse bands on dorsum; 3.Males with grayish white longitudinal stripe on both sides of the body; 4. Most of the enlarged keeled scales at the lateral sides of the body are white in color; 5. Tip of longest digit not reaching the tympanum when hind limbs are stretched forward [from LI et al. 2001].
