Type locality: Mt. Taipingshan, Nanao Hsiang, Ilan Pref., Taiwan (24°31'N, 121°30'E, 1950-2000 m elevation.

TypesHolotype: NTNUB 2235, an adult male collected on 5 September 1995, by S.-L. Chen. Paratypes. Five adult males (KUZ R32929-930, 32940, 32953, NMNS 2816), one immature male (KUZ R32939), all with same data as the holotype; one adult female (TM RL0425), collected from same locality as the holotype on 8 July 1996, by G. Shang.

Comment 
EtymologyThe specific epithet, luei, is a noun in the genitive singular case, and a patronym honoring Kuang-Yang Lue for his great contributions to the herpetology of Taiwan.
