Types | Holotype. ZSI/SRS/VRL 1049 an adult male with regrown tail, collected by ANS and AA on 30th June, 2019. Paratopotypes. ZSI/SRS/VRL 1050, 1051 and 1052 adult females, collected along with the holotype. |
Diagnosis | Diagnosis. A species of Dravidogecko from the upper Nilgiris, characterised by the following combination of characters: snout-vent length ranging up to 55.0 mm; two pairs of well-developed postmentals, inner pair shorter than mental and longer than outer postmentals, anteriorly in contact with mental; bordered by 1st infralabial scale, mental, outer postmentals and 4 gular scales; ventral scale rows 24–26; precloacal femoral pores 38 (n = 1); subdigital lamellae beneath of digit I: 5 or 6, and digit IV: 8 or 9 (manus); subdigital lamellae beneath of digit I: 7 or 6 and digit IV: 10 or 11 (pes); supralabials 7–9 and infralabials 7 or 8 on each side. Comment | Synonymy: Shameer et al. 2021 coined the name Dravidogecko coonoorenis for a clade outside other s, pecies. Howeverthey did not provide a description or other details, so this name remained a nomen nudum. Shameer et al. 2021 mentioned Dravidogecko coonoorensis (also misspelled coonoorenis in the same paper) without diagnosis or type specimens, hence Chaitanya 2022 considered this name as unavailable. It was formally described by Abinesh et al. 2025. |
Etymology | Named after Latin for the city of Coonoor (see also Chaitanya 2022), in apposition to generic name (therefore invariable). |
