Types 
DiagnosisDiagnosis (genus). Dorsal scales in 19/19/15 rows (except Dryophylax chimanta and Dryophylax duida, both with 17/17/15); rows slightly keeled, secondarily smooth or accentuated keeled; one apical pit; one preocular and two postoculars; hemipenis marginally bilobed, with short lobes and spiculate and papillate calyces (Fig. S6C); pronounced conchal process of prefrontal; medial maxillary process of ectopterygoid up to twice as long than the lateral maxillary process; maxilla-ectopterygoid articulation aligned with palatinopterygoid articulation. (Trevine et al. 2022: Appendix 3) 
CommentSynonymy partly after CEI 1993 and BAILEY et al (2005). WALLACH et al. 2014: 718 gave the publication date of MIKAN 1820 as 1828.

Type species: Coluber nattereri MIKAN 1820 is the type species of the genus Dryophylax Wagler 1830: 181. 
EtymologyNamed after Johann Natterer (1787-1843), Austrian naturalist. (Esteban Lavilla, pers. comm., April 2024)

The genus was named after Greek dryos (δρυος), oak, tree + Greek phylax (φυλακή, φυλακή), watching, guarding; garrison.
