kingii: E Sonora, W Chihuahua, probably southward into Durango and Sinaloa. Type locality: Mexico. Restricted to Mojárachic by SMITH & TAYLOR 1950. Elevation up to 8826 ft (Medica 1965).

nobilis: SW New Mexico, SE Arizona. Sonora. Type locality: Fort Webster Copper Mines of the Gila [Santa rita del Cobre], New Mexico.

usufa: Mexico (Chihuahua)

ferruginea: Mexico (Aguascalientes, Durango, Sinaloa). Type locality: two miles north of Pueblo Neuvo, ca. 6000 ft., Durango.

DiagnosisDiagnosis: An Elgaria of the kingii group with 50-56 transverse rows of dorsals; uppermost primary temporal in contact with the uppermost secondary temporal (Tihen 1948: 299). For an alternative diagnosis see Good 1988: 75.

CommentBocourt’s paper from 1878 is also cited as being from 1872 in SMITH & TAYLOR 1950. we haven’t seen the original and therefore don’t know which one bears the right year. Synonymy and subspecies after SMITH & TAYLOR 1950.
Bryson et al. (2005) provided evidence that the single specimen of Elgaria usafa
from the Sierra del Nido in Chihuahua is an aberrantly patterned E. kingii and suggested to synonymize E. usafa with E. kingii.
