DiagnosisDiagnosis: Presencia de escamas supraoculares grandes que no contactan con las escamas supralabiales, 12 escamas alrededor de la parte media de la cola. Doscientos cuarenta y tres a 274 escamas dorsales totales y 12 a 32 subcaudales. Dorso de color variado, variando desde totalmente negro, castaño oscuro o gris oscuro acerado, hasta un color crema con siete líneas longitudinales castaño oscuras del mismo ancho de las claras a lo largo del cuerpo. Presencia o ausencia de mancha blanquecina en la escama rostral y en la punta de la cola. Pueden tener la mancha blanca en la escama rostral y no en la cola o viceversa.
Vientre variando desde crema inmaculado hasta crema con líneas longitudinales castaño claro, o con escamas castaño claro esparcidas irregularmente. Escama anal puede o no ser castaño clara. En vista ventral, la cola puede tener un color más oscuro que el resto del vientre; lo mismo puede ocurrir en la región gular. Entre estos extremos se puede encontrar todo tipo de coloración intermedia.
Se diferencia de todas las especies del grupo de Leptotyphlops albifrons por poseer 12 escamas alrededor de la parte media de la cola, mientras que aquellas poseen apenas 10 escamas.
De las especies pertenecientes a los grupos de Leptotyphlops septemstriatus y L. dulcis, L. albipunctus se diferencia por poseer 12 escamas alrededor de la parte media de la cola, versus 10 esca- mas en aquellas, por no poseer la escama rostral con una arista cortante horizontal en el borde anterior y en particular del grupo de L. septemstriatus por poseer escamas supraoculares [from KRETZSCHMAR 2006].

CommentSynonymy after Kretzschmar 2006. Sometimes the describer is given as JAN 1861 but see KRETZSCHMAR 2006. E. melanoterma was considered as a valid species by Wallach et al. 2016, 2025, but without justification, hence we retain it as synonym of albipuncta.
