TypesSyntypes: MNHN-RA 0204, ZSM 1783/0 (not 1782/0 as mentioned in Savage & McDiarmid 2017), 2 specimens from "Ecuador", collected by M. Wagner, no date; MNHN catalog says that it was collected by Boussingault though.
Holotype: USNM 6703 [Opheomorphus alticolus] 
Diagnosis 
CommentSynonymy: previously a subspecies of Erythrolamprus epinephelus (see also comments there).

Diet: frogs, tadpoles, lizards (Cadena-Ortiz et al. 2017) 
EtymologyNamed after the Latin roots aib- meaning white, and ventr-, the lower surface, referring to the whitish appearance of the sides of the head of species (lower and upper labial scales).
