CommentSynonymy partly after SMITH 1935. Mabuya allapallensis has been treated as a synonym of Mabuya macularis (Blyth, 1853) by Smith (1935). Sharma (1976) and Das (1991) considered it valid but Mirza et al. (2010) synonymized it again with E. macularia. Eutropis madaraszi has been removed from the synonymy of E. macularia. All 3 subspecies are of doubtful but unresolved taxonomic status (Ota et al. 2001, Pauwels & David 2005), hence we consider them as synonyms of macularia for the time being. Euprepes brevis GÜNTHER 1875 and Lygosoma dawsoni ANNANDALE 1909 have been removed from the synonymy of E. macularia by Ganesh et al. 2021 and are now considered as valid species.

Karyotype: Mabuya macularia consists of karyologically different populations. Specimens from NW Thailand had 2n = 38 chromosomes while specimens from SW Thailand invariably had 2n = 34 chromosomes (Ota et al. 2001).

Distribution: not in Sri Lanka, since Batuwita 2016 has assigned all Sri Lankan populations to E. greeri, austini, and madaraszi.
EtymologyMabuya allapallensis was named after its type locality.
