Reproductionviviparous (not imputed, fide Zimin et al. 2022) 
TypesHolotype: ZSI 2350 (apparently the single type mentioned by STOLICZKA 1870); the BMNH online catalogue lists BMNH 1946.8.18.22-24 as “types” without further details.
Syntypes: MSNG 28107 [borneensis]

CommentDistribution: see map in Karin et al. 2017 (Fig. 1). The population from Mindanao is genetically divergent and may represent a different species ( Karin et al. 2017). Not listed as such by DAS 1996 (Biogeogr. SE-Asia). Has been reported from the Nicobar Islands but not listed by DAS 1999.

Animals from Bali lack the typical 5-7 longitudinal lines and are uniform brown dorsally and laterally.
