TypesSyntypes: BMNH 1946.8.22.28-29, one male and one halfgrown. 
EtymologyNamed after Gr.: kephale, head; lepis, scale: head-scale referring to the larger scute-like scales on the head as compared with the supposedly related Archaius tigris (Charles Klaver, pers. comm., 11 Jan 2023).
