Syntypes: MLUH [albomaculatus] 
Diagnosis 
CommentSimilar species: G. taylori and G. gecko. Also similar to G. verreauxii (from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands) and G. siamensis (from C-Thailand). Reported from but not listed by DAS 1999 for the Andaman Islands.

Group: Grismer et al. 2022 included 4 species in the G. smithii complex: G. smithii, albofaciolatus, albomaculatus, and hulk.

Synonymy: mostly after Grismer et al. 2022 who also removed Gekko albofasciolatus from the synonymy of G. smithii.

Distribution: See map in Grismer et al. 2022: 48 (Fig. 1). 
EtymologyNamed after Andrew Smith (1797-1872), Scottish zoologist and first Superintendent of the South African Museum in Cape Town.
