Type locality: 2.5 airline km NNE La Fortuna (15 26'N, 87 18'W), 1750 m elevation, Departmento de Yoro, Honduras.

DiagnosisDiagnosis: Geophis damiani is distinguished from the species of Geophis found in eNCA (except G. hoffmanni) by having 15 dorsal scale rows present throughout the length of the body (17 dorsal scale rows in G. dunni, G. fulvoguttatus, G. nephodrymus, and G. rhodogaster). Geophis damiani can be differentiated from G. hoffmanni by having a dark dorsal ground coloration with a red nuchal band and red partial bands and laterally offset red blotches (uniform dark dorsal coloration with a pale nuchal band in juveniles in G. hoffmanni), 136–143 ventral scales (114–131 in G. hoffmanni), 34–41 subcaudal scales (23–32 in G. hoffmanni), six supralabials (five or fewer in G. hoffmanni), and posterior chinshields in moderately to broadly separated (posterior chinshields in moderate contact in G. hoffmanni).

EtymologyThe name is a patronym honoring a friend and field companion of the authors, Damian Almendarez.
