Distribution | China (Gansu), 2300 m elevation Type locality: Liupan Mountains in the Ningxia Huizo Region, east of the Qingyang area in der Province Gansu. Only known from the type locality. |

Comment | Venomous! Synonymy: Zhao et al. (1998) synonymized Gloydius halys liupanensis with G. strauchi which was maintained by WALLACH et al. 2014: 311. GUMPRECHT et al. (2004) do not recognize the subspecies liupanensis, mogoi, and affinis. Zhao 2006 listed Gloydius halys cognatus, liupanensis, qinlingensis, and stejnegeri as synonyms of either G. strauchi or G. intermedius. Phylogenetics: see XU et al. 2009. Subspecies: Agkistrodon halys ussuriensis and other subspecies have been elevated to full species status. Conservation: one of the 30 most endangered viper species (Maritz et al. 2016). |
