Diagnosis | Diagnosis: The new subspecies differs from the other 3 subspecies of our country in 1) difference between the females and the males in morpha; 2) body sides with the white lines from head to tail; 3) 19-21 rows of dorsal scales in the middle body; 4) ventrals + subcaudals 192—201 (on an average 196). Comment | Venomous! Synonymy: Zhao et al. (1998) synonymized Gloydius halys liupanensis with G. strauchi which was maintained by WALLACH et al. 2014: 311. GUMPRECHT et al. (2004) do not recognize the subspecies liupanensis, mogoi, and affinis. Zhao 2006 listed Gloydius halys cognatus, liupanensis, qinlingensis, and stejnegeri as synonyms of either G. strauchi or G. intermedius. Phylogenetics: see XU et al. 2009. Subspecies: Agkistrodon halys ussuriensis and other subspecies have been elevated to full species status. Conservation: one of the 30 most endangered viper species (Maritz et al. 2016).
