CommentSynonymy: BARBOUR 1912 synonymized G. kuhlii with Gonocephalus chamaeleontinus, a position that was also supported by Kopstein 1932. However, Manthey & Denzer 1993 confirmed the validity of G. kuhlii. 
EtymologyNamed after Dr. Heinrich Kuhl (1797-1821), a German ornithologist who was an assistant to Conrad Jacob Temminck. He also worked with Johan Conrad van Hasselt in Java before dying in Buitenzorg of a tropical disease.
