Type locality: Brownsville, Cameron County, Texas.  
ReproductionGopherus agassizii can hybridize with Gopherus berlandieri (Edwards et al. 2010).

EtymologyNamed after Jean Louis Berlandier (1803-1851), Belgian biologist, who left Europe for Mexico in 1826 and settled there.
