Type species: Scelotes fierinensis GRANDIDIER 1869: 340 is the type species of the genus Grandidierina MOCQUARD 1894, as designated by Brygoo 1981. 
EtymologyThe genus is named after Alfred Grandidier (1836-1921), French explorer, geographer, and ornithologist who collected in Madagascar (1865).
