DistributionUSA (Mississippi: Pascagoula River)

Type locality: "Chickasawhay River, Leakesville, Greene County, Mississippi, USA."  
Reproductionoviparous. 
TypesHolotype: CM (Carnegie Museum) 94979, an adult male collected by R.C. Vogt, M. Pappas, and P.S. Freed on 21July 1978.

CommentSynonymy: Populations from Mississippi and eastern Louisiana have been assigned to Graptemys pearlensis. Praschag et al. 2017 found that G. ernsti, G. gibbonsi, G. pearlensis and G. pulchra are nearly identical genetically and, thus, likely conspecific.

Diet: carnivore.

Conservation: One of the top five endangered turtles in North America.

Habitat: freshwater (lakes, rivers)
