CommentType Species: Arpephorus tricinctus DUMÉRIL in DUMÉRIL & DUMÉRIL 1851 is the type species of the genus Harpesaurus BOULENGER 1885. Arpephorus is preoccupied by Arpephorus STEPHENS 1829 (Coleoptera).

The most striking feature of the genus is the presence, either in males only or in both sexes, of one or two prominent rostral appendages.
