Diagnosis | Diagnosis (genus). Semi-aquatic snakes with keeled dorsal scales. The posterior maxillary tooth longest, in a continuous series with the anterior ones. Body and tail slender, compressed. Two nasals, 1 loreal, 1 anterior, 2 posterior oculars. Scales moderately elongate, keeled, in 19 rows. Eye is moderate size (Günther, 1860) [from Guo et al. 2014]. Comment | Synonymy: Has been synonymized with A. platyceps. Both species are very similar and characters are broadly overlapping (see also TILLACK 2003). Type species: Herpetoreas sieboldii GÜNTHER 1860: 156 is the type species of the genus Herpetoreas GÜNTHER 1860.
