CommentType species: Ablabes periops GÜNTHER 1872 is the type species of the genus Hydrablabes BOULENGER 1891. 
EtymologyPeriops comes from the Greek peri (surrounding/enclosing) plus ops (eye) - the first line of the description states "eye surrounded by small scales" with emphatic italics as a diagnostic character. (fide Dr. Glenn Shea)
