| Etymology | Epithet praefrontalis is formed from prae+frontalis. prae- is word-forming element meaning "before," from Latin prae (adv.) "before"; reduced to pre- in Medieval Latin; frontalis is from frons (“forehead, brow, front”) + -ālis (“-al”, adjectival suffix). It references the distinct formation of the prefrontals scales that are fused, making it distinct from other cogeners. |
