DistributionMexico (Tamaulipas , Veracruz, San Luis Potosi, Hidalgo, Puebla)

Type locality: "Xochimilco, Valley of Mexico" (in error); restricted to "La Laja, Veracruz," Mexico, by Smith and Taylor (1950: 24); and later restricted to "Tampico," Tamaulipas, Mexico, by Smith and Brandon 1968)  
Reproductionoviparous. 
TypesHolotype: USNM 61249. 
Diagnosis 
CommentHabitat: freshwater (swamps, quiet rivers) 
EtymologyNamed after Alfonso L. Herrera, a past director of the National Museum of Mexico, who donated the type specimen to the United States National Museum.
