Etymology | Named after the collector of the types, Dr. Geoffiey Douglas Hale Carpenter (1882-1953), a physician and specialist in tropical medicine. He became Hope Professor of Entomology, Oxford, and is particularly remembered for his work on Ugandan butterflies and for research into the causes of sleeping sickness. |
