Type locality: Mt. Ruwenzori (6000 ft. elevation), Uganda  
TypesSyntypes: BMNH 1946.8.21.64-65 (one male and one female). Previously NHMUK 1901.6.24.35–36) 
EtymologyNamed after Gr.: xenos, strange; rhis (> rhinos), nose; -us/a/um, adjectival ending: strange-nosed, denoting the truly extraordinary spatulate nasal appendage in male specimens of this species (Charles Klaver, pers. comm., 11 Jan 2023).
