DistributionAustralia (New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Victoria)

Type locality: Kangaroo Is.; original description cites "Australia".
Reproductionoviparous. QUALLS & SHINE (1998) showed that some traits in L. guichenoti (e.g. incubation period, tail length, inter-limb length, body shape, locomotor performance) were strongly influenced by the thermal regime experienced by the embryo during incubation.
TypesLectotype: MNHN-RA 5264, designated by Wells & Wellington (1985).
Syntypes: MNHP 3014 (New Zealand), from New Zealand and Tas. (original description cites New Zealand and Australia) [Lygosoma duperreyii]
DiagnosisDiagnosis (genus): Small (snout-vent length up to 62 mm), Australian beta skinks with 5 toes on the front foot, prefrontals, and a movable lower eyelid a clear transparent window; clutch size variable, up to 10. Frontoparietals distinct (2 species) or fused (2 species) (Greer 1974: 25).
CommentSMITH 1937 gave GRAY as author for guichenoti.

Synonymy: Lygosoma (Mocoa) guttulatum PETERS 1881 was erroneously listed as synonym of Pseudemoia entrecasteauxii by COGGER 1983. Kaiser et al. 2013 considered the generic names Adrasteia Wells 2002, Allengreerus Hoser 2009, Helioscincus Wells 2002, Ndurascincus Wells 2002 invalid and rejected their use instead of Lampropholis.

Type Species: Lygosoma Guichenoti is the type species of the genus Lampropholis FITZINGER 1843.
EtymologyNamed after Antoine Alphone Guichenot (1809-1876), French zoologist, herpetologist, and ichthyologist at Museum National d'Histoire Naturelle, Paris.
