CommentIllustrations: Klingel, 1929; Mertens, 1939; Mertens, 1940; Cochran, 1941; Henderson and Schwartz, 1984 a.
EtymologyNamed after Dr. Carl Franz Anton Ritter von Schreibers (1775-1852), a zoologist who collected in Brazil (1817).

L. schreibersii nesomorus was named after Greek νῆσος (= island) and μετέχω (= to have a share of), an allusion to the fact that no other congeners occur on Île de la Tortue.
