DiagnosisDIAGNOSIS (loxogrammus). is subspecies is characterized by a darker grayish-brown dorsal ground color with a “rather coppery sheen,” speckled and streaked dorsally (only occasionally with indications of a brown middorsal streak comprising con uent spots), and marked white spotting on the sides of the neck (Barbour and Shreve 1935, Powell 2018). 
Comment 
EtymologyAlthough not stated by Cope (1887), the specific epithet presumably is derived from the Greek loxos (= slanting) and gramma (= letter or mark), possibly an allusion to the black diagonal lines on the backs of males. The subspecific epithet parnelli is a patronym honoring Fr. Denis Parnell, “parish priest at Cockburntown, only white inhabitant of Watling’s Island, guide, counselor and friend to all who live upon or visit San Salvador” (Barbour and Shreve 1935, Powell 2018).
