Comment | Subspecies: This species has been considered as a synonym or subspecies of Leptodeira septentrionalis, but was revalidated by BARRIO-AMORÓS 2019. Similar species: Leptodeira septentrionalis, Leptodeira ornata; Almendáriz & Carr (2012) reported L. larcorum (indentified as L. septentrionalis larcorum) from Machalilla National Park in Manabí Province, Ecuador; however, all specimens from this area included in the phylogeny of Torers-Carvajal et al. 2020 belong to L. ornata. |
Etymology | Named in honor of the brothers Rafael (1901-1966), Constante (1904-1981), and Xavier Larco Hoyle (1908-1946), “...who together manage the Hacienda Chiclin, where their regime is characterized by modern and ingenious agricultural methods, social consciousness, and a wide interest in general science...”. |
