CommentSynonymy: DUELLMAN 1958 listed this species as synonym of Leptodeira annulata rhombifera and mentions that this is “an unusual variant” of the latter taxon with normal scutellation but “The ground color is cream-brown; the blotches are black and number 50. The dorsal head coloration consists of a faint, X-shaped mark on the frontal and a U-shaped mark on the parietals. The latter is connected to the first body blotch by the nape stripe.”

Habitat: partly arboreal (Harrington et al. 2018). 
EtymologyNamed after Latin rubricata, red, painted red with ocher. [“...The color of the dorsal regions is bright red; of the inferior regions, light salmon color dusted with brown...”].
