Diagnosis | Diagnosis (subgenus Perretia): “Prefrontals moderate, separated; frontoparietals fused with interparietal; supralabials 6, the fourth, nearly twice as long as deep, below the eye; ear opening small, tympanum hidden; pineal eye absent; build robust, mabuiform; limbs small, pentadactyle, fingers and toes just touching when adpressed; paravertebral scale rows transversely enlarged; paravertebrals and ventrals less than 50 in a longitudinal series.” (Broadley 1989) Additional details (3545 characters) are available for collaborators and contributors. Etymology | Named after Greek rhombos (ῥόμβος), rhombus, a shape with four equal sides and opposite angles + Latin -alis, in allusion to the frontoparietals and interparietal fused into a single shield with a rhomboid shape. |
