CommentType species: Liasis Mackloti DUMÉRIL & BIBRON 1844 is the type species of the genus Liasis GRAY 1842: 44 (fide Stimson and McDowell's 1986 request for conservation of Liasis), otherwise the type species is Liasis childreni, see Williams 1987: 69).

Synonymy: Kaiser et al. 2013 considered the generic name Katrinus Hoser 2000 invalid and rejected its use instead of Liasis. See comment on Katrinus in Liasis fuscus.

Hybridization: BANKS & SCHWANER (1984) describe a hybrid between Morelia spilota and Liasis mackloti.

Distribution: reports from coastal N Australia may be misidentifications of other Liasis species.
EtymologyNamed after Heinrich Christian Macklot (1799-1832), a taxidermist who was appointed to assist members of the Dutch Natural Science Commission.
