Diagnosis 
CommentGroup: lineomaculatus group. This group differs from the L. magellanicus and the L. kingii groups in the absence of precloacal pores and the presence of trifid scales. Whereas species of the L. lineomaculatus group are characterized by two paravertebral and quadrangular black or brown series of blotches surrounded by two well-defined whitish lines (in general, to the tip of the tail), species of the L. kingii group do not show this pattern and present transversal lines or a wide vertebral line (Breitman et al. 2013).

Distribution: Reports of Liolaemus lineomaculatus from Chile (e.g. in Ruiz de Gamboa 2016) are apparently in error and represent L. archeforus, L. sarmientoi or L. escarchadosi (González-Gutiérrez 2019). For a map of localities of members of the L. petrophilus group see Morando et al. 2020: 230. 
EtymologyNamed after Latin linea, a thread-like stroke or mark and Latin maculatus, spotted. [“...Pale olive or greyish above, with pale longitudinal streaks and blackish squarish spots arranged as in the preceding species...” (refers to Liolaemus magellanicus)].
