Diagnosis
CommentSynonymy after Peters et al. 1970 and BOULENGER 1885. According to Borczyk & Skawiński 2019, Liolaemus hieroglyphicus is not synonymous with L. signifer, L. chiliensis or L. lemniscatus. It is similar to L. cyanogaster and L. schroederi (particularly the latter), but at present cannot be unambiguously synonymised with any of these. Hence, these authors regard it as a species inquirenda.

Type locality: "Valparaiso".

Original description: “The dorsal scales form 25 rows and the belly scales 33 rows. Forehead with six pairs of con- secutive enlarged scales. Drawing: Above warts light brown, with a black spot above the upper arm and on the sides with two long white lines and two rows of black and brown spots” (Gravenhorst 1838: 73; cited after Borczyk 2013).
EtymologyNamed after Latin lemniscatus, ribboned. (Gravenhorst, 1838, Esteban Lavilla, pers. comm., April 2024)
