Type locality: near the city of Rio Grande, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil.

Diagnosis 
CommentBelongs to the wiegmanni group of Liolaemus. 
EtymologyNamed after Latin occipitalis, pertaining to the back of the head or to occiput. (Boulenger, 1885, Esteban Lavilla, pers. comm., April 2024)
